The top bar is becoming more of a menu system to replace the sidebar. Would have been good to include that screenshot here to better represent the evolution of the site design.

I think they are taking it in the right direction, generally speaking.

I know your CTR is nothing to boast about. But making facebook harder to use is not the way to fix it longterm. Short term, yes, enjoy the extra pennies from frustrated click monkeys.
