Halsey *built* a horse farm, while Shelby inherited one. (Shelby's family is a longtime horse family from Kentucky). But Halsey bought Carter's Grove Plantation in Virginia last year, a fabulous historical landmark. He is building a horse-breeding farm and has a stable of thoroughbreds. Halsey bought a horse "Fierce Wind" that was headed to the Kentucky Derby before it faltered in the Florida Derby. Ashe was Shelby's handpicked successor as CEO. Shelby's longstanding friendship and professional relationship to Smith, from Allen & Co. days, was no doubt catalyst to close this deal. Smith, you might recall, also was with Netscape for years under Barkesdale.

jpelline

The horse farm is not Halsey's it is Shelby's. And -- he inherited it. It is really quite impressive.

valleypro

Smith and Bonnie were buddies. They used to hang out at the Allen & Co. conference together. A long courtship. Nice premium to "cash out." For outsiders, think if you were smart enough to sell at higher than $11.50 and then scoop it up again in the 7s.;) Glad it went to a media player with seasoned media management. Interesting to think how CBS sold Marketwatch but then bought CNET. Halsey's horse racing farm is more interesting, though. He left at just the right time. Smart guy.

jpelline
