@Costermonger:

It is laughable that you would think IODA only has one method of content ingestion. FTP is used, and Data DVDs, and hard drives are also shipped to IODA. It is laughable I supposed that there are indie labels that go through the entire process of physical product production just to end up sending IODA a CD that gets distributed digitally. And if you DO think that's laughable, then tell all the record labels you know not to do that and just go right to IODA!!! I know man, I know. It's easy to sound like a smarty pants on a blog comment thread.

teafordinner

What are you trying to say with this comment? I appreciate it when the actual companies respond via commenting.

A quick suggestion. Try to bring something to the discussion other than a rude quip.

We all started at the bottom. How did you get started? Or did you get started? Please inform us.

rudolphdude

dear, Steve Bronstein

so does that mean the 'encoders' is sorta like the mail room, you sign up for the a specific position and they shove you in at a desk doing a monkeys job.

I think it's laughable that you don't get compressed media from digital recording source. A rip might have a be honking scratch on it.

Costermonger

Nicolas,

The 'encoder' position referred to above by "a former IODA employee" is actually a paid position in our Production group. It is indeed basically a data entry job, but the plus is that instead of inputting social security numbers or whatever, you are inputting stuff about music, plus working in what (in my very biased opinion) is a much cooler work environment than you'd find with most data entry positions. And, as adam says, you see lots of new music.

The content acquisition internship is a totally different role. It is on the Content Acquisition team and involves working with the members of that team to sign labels to IODA. This position generally involves a lot of interaction with lots of record labels and artists on a daily basis.

Also, fwiw, I think there are at least 10 full-time IODA employees who started as 'encoders' and have since moved on to bigger and better things within the company, and there are probably around the same number of full-time employees who started out as unpaid interns in the content or marketing groups.

Thanks,

It doesn't sound too bad, i love to organize and fill ALL my music library(2000 songs..not too big) with album art, artist, names...even LYRICS!! and i guess like adam says you could discover a LOT of new music...i love GOOD music!! :P...of course if you could actually get paid then it would be perfect for me.

Mike918

Weird. I used to love encoding CDs for digital music companies... got turned on to a lot of new music. Hell, I was buried in music all-day-every-day. 'Course, I was also getting paid. :P

tremans
