I mean, dude gets ripped on in blog post, others start hating based off of that source, dude shows up honest and open, people's opinions change, antagonist shows up who starts trash talking & breaks law/agreement, chaos ensues. This is definitely 3rd act material.

They're paying writers the usual rate for posts. Roughly $10 per, with some incentives every now and then depending on traffic, etc. I'm not sure if that's still the case, but it was for a few months in the beginning.

The burn rate, as I understand it, is/was due to a tool being developed at [www.renewzle.com.]

There are and have been a couple/few salaried types, and it's likely that they weren't contributing content enough to make it worth the $10 per article for independent contractors. That seems to have changed now, too. Salaried editors seem to be contributing regularly.

But the point is, the so called burn rate, if this figure is true, is not due to just building a blog network. I'm sure only David knows if his investor wants to pull out on this, but the above facts are what I've overheard and seen.

The one thing they're right about is that it turns the participants into better, more determined salespeople. But then again, dropping a teenager blind into a forest from a helicopter is going to make him better than his peers at building a hut out of foliage and escaping from bears.

I've never heard of someone making 100k through that program, though I did have the "pleasure" of being at a conference with someone who was formerly their senior VP of distribution or some bullshit title like that, and he mentioned numbers in the low-mid 5 digits. They are to Amway what an intercontinental ballistic missile is to slingshot.

@davidryal You're SPENDING $100CPM, not making $100CPM. That's a shit load. You've had the site all to yourself for the past 10 months (I was at GO for a year, but only had the site under my direct control for the first five week or so) and you're making, at best, $1CPM. Excellent work.

I was smart and asked you to be buy me out, which you so kindly arranged. I got paid a bunch of money by you to jump off your leaky, sinking ship. I used most of the money to pay back my investors who had lost money in my entrepreneurial failure. Will you be doing the same when GO goes down David?

I just raised $20k in five days in micro loans, half off of Twitter-made friends, to start a little t-shirt and screen printing company. I like starting companies, so yeah, I will go boy.

@mattearle: we spent our first 13 months with no office, and I've never flown first class in my life (though I hear it's nice).

@yawnster: you're half right--the "source" for this story is a jilted former co-founder who calls himself "The eco-entrepreneur" but can't even afford to pay the bill for his blog host. He insisted on being the highest paid person in the company, and has already burned through the $100k+ he received up to and since he was unanimously kicked out of GO last Sept. (see him raising micro-loans on twitter to start a t-shirt business; you go boy: [twitter.com] )

@marcsiry @closingtag: you're right, it would be almost impossible to spend that much money on a blog network. The plurality of the money has gone into development of this beautiful web app we're launching on April 14: Renewzle.com

@cheesy: 10 cents/pageview is $100 CPM. That's a shitload.

Other thoughts:
The "source" (let's call him Ghea Sunther) is also the badass that convinced me (the "kid") that we should start a blog with a few hundred grand of my father's money instead of developing the web app I originally went looking for partners to create. Which I got created anyway, despite Ghea's singular focus on his personal stardom. Seriously, this web app kicks ass, and Ghea had NOTHING to do with it.

Expanding GreenOptions.com to a blog network was the best move I made, given that "Ghea" had 12 months at full pay and never got GO above 150k pageviews/mo. The network was planned with the rest of the team while I was negotiating with "Ghea" about his exit). Since launching last November, it's seen 30% monthly growth, and is going nowhere come June.

If "the source" wants to continue beating a dead horse just because his ego is crushed that everyone involved thinks he almost ruined our startup, he might want to take a look at the confidentiality clause of his stock sale agreement. I'm pretty sure he doesn't have money for a lawyer right now...

FOR THE RECORD: GO Media is not shutting down any time soon, AND I have never pitched a single investor about raising money for the Green Options blog network.

And seriously, how stupid is it for someone who begged for $300k to start a blog (a BLOG!) to be firing anonymous shells about raising money?
