@categorically: The problem with your analogy is that people still use Yahoo!, and they basically own the middle-aged and senior demographic. No one buys Chryslers.

I can't figure out why Yahoo! still exists. They are the Chrysler Corporation of IT. Crappy products with no real focus, but somehow they get bailed out again and again. Microsoft will find out like Daimler did and wish they never wanted a piece of this turd.

as msft takes a page out of rupert's playbook for buying dow jones from the bancroft family, it's kinda fun/sad to think that terry, jerry and sue (oh, and strategy genius jeff weiner) were about as successful at steering the ship as a bunch of fourth-generation dilettante cousins...

after they inevitably sell to msft, at least they'll all be rich enough to keep up the tennis, golf and motorcycles...
