The memo is as transparent as it is salient. Simply, Neil Ashe states that CNET needs to embrace change by exploiting their first-mover advantage to drive efficiencies by conceptualizing and architecting brand-centric, seamless, end-to-end, best-of-breed solutions for forward-leaning virtual communities.

The new is old. Agile is the new New. We are at the tipping point. This will change everything. It's about dynamic aggregation, not static accumulation. High impact/low adhesion. Vertically integrated solutions for a flat world. Long tail, meet fat snout. You need someone who gets it: Splog is an aggregate noun. Roll your own roll-your-own. Social is the new push. Tag the globe, then globalize the tags. Microformats for metablogging. Enable rich-client widgets for on-demand streams. Above all, incentivize semantic synergies and you'll never have to worry about monetizing sticky eyeballs - they'll be glued to your viral paradigm!

I'm wondering if y'all have experienced layoffs before. This email is par for the course. It'd be nice if executives didn't make them so cookie cutter, but that almost never happens. And it's damned-if-you-do - if you try to be entertaining or funny and fall flat, you look callous.

dgroove

CNET is a duct-taped mix of properties that no one internally knows how it's all connected or how to connect it. Not much different than the hodgepodge of properties under IAC.

rafa3rafa

OK. I read this memo twice and it belongs in the Dilbert Hall of Fame. I could not have written something with so many words that were so intelligible. I thought I knew what CNET's business was, but now I have no idea. You would think a company that communicates to the public about technology would be clear and concise in all of its communications.

I've personally given up on CNET. Too many times when I've googled a product review CNET pops up first, but never has the review, just a link to buy. And one of it's tech experts was on a radio show last week and in answer to a caller's question about buying a phone for a trip to China, said that Asia uses CDMA and Europe uses GSM.

phil28

I am self-described fan of Jordan Golson, which might explain why I have noticed his near-obsession with easiness, or at least the phrase 'That seems easier'.

"Management have dropped the ball and sites like Engadget and Gizmodo are kicking our ass. So to cut costs and to try to make more money we are cutting the dead wood. Well...when i say dead wood...i mean the small people...cause the people who get the big wages would cost too much to get rid of. Sorry about that (disclaimer: Im not sorry but thats the kinda crap you write in these memos)...wishing you every success in the future...Neil.
