Linden is the company, Second Life is the product. (I don't know if he works there or not.)

Maybe the metaverse will happen, but it hasn't happened yet. First 3D graphics cards with high rez monitors and beefy processors to drive them have to be almost everywhere (which they are not) and secondly the ability to browse the web, make phone calls, sign documents, faxing, and all the other things we associate with "doing business" needs to be doable within that 3D interface.

I think they are open sourcing their code (or already have) and if there is developer uptake of that code (so that it can become a standard) then SL could become the basis for an eventual metaverse. As with the Internet, implicit in the definition of "metaverse" is that there can only be one of them. So the Internet will have to become part of it, rather than the other way 'round.

Long long way to go though.

Didn't Chadrick work for Linden and work for Second Life? Second Life sucks, but he may not be far off in thinking his new company is trying to change the internet. The Metaverse is going to happen,, it's good to know some people are trying to make it work.
