Did you know that diamonds are not rare and that DeBeers has pulled off the most elaborate and effective marketing campaign ever? 3 Months salary for a common stone? DeBeers buys mines as soon as they pop up around the world.

Rubies were used as wedding stones for years before all of this diamond stuff.

Anyway, that ring looks pretty pimp but it makes more sense than diamonds. Rubies may actually be worth what rubies sell for. :-)

The ruby ring may be a friendship, birthstone (e.g Garnet or Ruby) or engagement ring instead, since the left is the only place for it when the right is taken. Russians like their gems - think Faberge.

He can certainly afford to have a gorgeous ruby like that, and to me it's an indicator that guys as well as gals want something unique and special. I would love to see details. In spite of how large that center stone is, it also doesn't scream "class ring" or "mob boss" to me -- it's set differently, and what I can see of the mounting is intriguing.

I would also like to know if it has some special meaning.
