That said, at least Google still will show these results inline but will prevent users from clicking the link to go directly to the page.

All companies reserve the right and do filter out "objectionable" or irrelevant content, would be interesting to see a comparative breakdown of what each engine considers taboo.

Presumably, when China decides, it leads to a bad outcome. Yet China is a government. According to the "logic" of the pirate's statement, it would be better for China to censor the Internet than Yahoo! Yet, according to the same "logic" of his statement, China is a dictatorship, and thus should not be trusted.

The only theme underlying the pirate's post is this - self-interest. If China censored his page but Yahoo! allowed it, he would applaud Yahoo!, writing, "Private companies take a stand against dictatorship!"

(I do agree, though, that if Yahoo! is filtering certain pages for reasons unrelated to spam, then this is something we all should be disturbed by and should inquire into.)
