I think she should have been made President with full control. How much worse could things have turned out? Google already had an enormous headstart. Semel and Yang were asleep at the wheel so the damage was already done.

So it is hardly fair to blame it on Decker. The organization needed a kick in the ass, but I don't know if I would have done it the way they did. Maybe they should have booted Yang. I agree that Decker is probably either not with Yahoo anymore or just being a lame duck until MS takes it over.

ron312

@Snarkotron, are you kidding?? Jeff W. is one of the most widely loathed execs at Y. He is the proverbial poster boy for everything wrong with the company--full of bombastic narcissism, consistently underdelivering. It was on his watch that Google buried Y in search and search revenue. One thing's for sure, as long as he stays at Y the company hasn't really changed and you shouldn't invest in its future.

sunnyvalesteve

There are definitely some folks at YHOO trapped between a dislike of MSFT and distrust of their current management. It's a bad day when Ballmer looks like the lesser of two evils! >:)

Anyhow, one of Sue's non-endearing characteristics is that she tries to use humor in the all-hands, even when she's not really cut out for comedy. The worst I've heard of was the recent all-hands where Jerry came out and acknowledged the upcoming layouts, and then Sue came out to do a general status report, complete with wacky musical intros to the various sections. Um yeah, after hearing that the company was going to fire 1000 people, Yahoos were really in the mood for half-assed humor.

Snarkotron

Sue Decker is not the CEO. Jerry Yang is the CEO. Sue Decker is President.

My guess is a good chance that she's already gone or a lame duck. If I recall correctly, Sue Decker was one of Terry Semel's faves. Now that he's out of the picture, she has lost her most powerful champion on the board. It's plausible that she and the board have already discussed her exit and they're just waiting for the right time to announce her departure to "pursue other interests".

Right-hand woman...how about where are the female employees of Yahoo now in general, still there or on the way out?? Yahoo has just hemorraged a boatload of female talent. It's rather obvious...a huge, very noticeable chunk of the laid-off present in transition sessions over the last days were women - rather shocking given the women's bathrooms in the auxiliary campuses were hardly inhabited at all. It reeks of closing of ranks and buddy boyism.

CharBo
