RSUs are the valleys way of giving equity to employees and avoiding the expense of options that can be a drag on earnings. when the laws changed recently forcing co's that give out options to actually start accounting for those options as an expense on their income sheet, a new equity vehicle was created that circumvents the expense.

but VW typically practices yellow journalism and goes for sensation seeking headlines ....most of the time missing the mark.
