I have to say... Rackspace is POMPOUS! They are ridiculously over-priced, and if you knew what they did for their "Rackers" you wouldn't agree to pay them one more penny of your hard earned money. They reward those pushy sales guys with trips all over the world, and have next to zero morality. That's just the tip of the iceberg. C'mon... it's just webhosting. I'm surprised some 17 year old kid in his garage hasn't come up with more than they have to offer yet. Someone needs to come up with something better than this "Fanatical Support" bullshit and knock them off their pedestal. They are growing too fast for their own good. They hire people with no experience and think they can morph them into experienced support people. Rubbish... the only thing they're Fanatical about is their image, not their customers.

notechie

I agree about the spamming and forward sales tactics. I'm not sure if this is common in certain rings but I thought it was a little strange when one of the first questions they asked me was whether my company generates over $500 million/year.

adammoro

Rackspace are the most pompous, immodest and self-aggrandising company ever to be seen in the managed web-hosting business. Not only that, but their job interview process is also the most inefficient, painful, ridiculous, and unnecessarily stressful bunch of poo ever to be experienced, whether you manage to get a job offer from them or not (and I have this on good authority from 2 of their employees). Their continued presence on the market is an insult to the industry and the intelligence of anyone who has anything to do with them. The sooner they die, the better for everyone concerned.

dreico

BS on the 37Signals outage, not their fault at all. 37Signals made the decision to not have a backup load balancer, and then start making accusations. Garbage.

Don't know about the Tumblr outage but I'm not taking anyone's word on things since accusation is enough for everyone to believe the 37S trash.

Anyway, a pain-in-the-ass and clueless customer exodus is nothing if not welcome news to me as a Rackspace customer, the normal customers can get more support resources that way. Good riddance :)

Also I hope you guys will cover the leaving company's next outage, it will come, and it will likely, again, be their own fault.

morganm

Their sales team got lazy and rude too. Recently we were thinking about working with them but chose not to. I politely explained to the salesman why we chose another provider.. he replied with a sarcastic liner "Wow. Good Luck."
