I'm no expert, but Fred's not dumb. He knows a lot of folks in the VC space are riding his coattails, so the mere implication that he might invest in a firm might get others interested.

So my take is no, he's not investing, otherwise he would not be so public about this - or, of course, he has already invested and the papers are signed. But I doubt it, he can basically add video to Twitter, which he has already invested in, and duplicate Seesmic, which has 10+ competitors anyway (not a knock... just observing).

If you're an attention/cam whore, you can already get a MUCH bigger audience on youtube. You can have your own channel, have subscribers, have distribution etc. Seesmic is a waste of money.

Don't these people realize that the vast majority of people don't like the way they look and don't want to adjust their hair etc so they look good on a shitty video site?!

The beauty of blogs, twitter, email, and even phone is that you can do it sitting naked and no one will know?

Hey Le Meur, look into why video phones all failed!

I love VCs and entrepreneurs that don't get it. They think that audio/video is the natural progression from something that exists in text. They don't realize that MOST of the world at least has a sense of shame and doesn't feel the need to plaster their ugly mug in front of everyone. Not to mention it's a hassle, to both watch and make a video when compared to text.

I realize that Silicon valley wouldn't exist if it weren't for the taking someone's idea, marginally improving it, ???, profit dynamic, but this implementation of it is terminally screwed.
