I've heard from someone who would definitely know that the 1.6% was a typo (the figure is actually 16%), but Microsoft and Facebook felt it would both be to their benefit to continue the typo.

@OnYourEnemiesList: I would think so. Even outside of Facebook, that's pretty much the basis for value of most information on the web.

correct me if I'm wrong here but what wouldn't facebook have little to no value beyond traffic if all that self flagged user interest and preferences wasn't available for advertisers to target? I thought that was the premise upon which all these huge valuations were based.
