I don't think FaceAzon is a viable deal. However, I wouldn't so quickly dismiss "crude demographics and geographies." There's a few billion pages a day of remnant ads displayed just in the US (including on Valleywag, clearly). Knowing age, sex, and location will raise the floor on remnant nicely. Lookery will make a little money on that now and Facebook a lot of money on it later.

I think eBay is smarter than that. MAYBE a small stake is reasonable, but $15B is absolutely ridiculous for a company that's not even close to being profitable (that's right kids, you read that correctly. Until I see some numbers, I'll assume negative profitability)! We'll see though. Meg Whitman is a wily CEO...She might know something we don't.

Yup. And furthermore Amazon charts it's own course, remaking the world in its own rose-colored image, eBay buys stakes, aka Craigslist. Plus eBay can has the cold hard cash that you can pry from it's dead hands.

But all these (leaked) 'rumors' are obvious Facebook attempts to drive up the price by creating the illusion of a bidding war. Suckers that bite.

sorry, but EBAY is a much more logical choice - they have integrated payment platforms, internet telephony, and a clearance and auction vehicle for everything that might move through classifieds...plus they have a better technical vision for how such a thing might work (amazon would just push too much product and alienate users)
