Nowhere have you supported why investments in clean technology are a bad bet. In any case, if you and everyone else recognized this is a great bet, no mis-pricing of the investment would exist, therefore offering no potential for positive risk-adjusted returns.

In support of your editorial statement, you have merely surmised KP has made these investments based on the ulterior motives of Doerr. Unless all the other managing partners at KP have no say in this or are totally beholden to Doerr, how does a firm with such a track record invest half its resources in a theme based on the whim of its most successful partner? The answer is that it doesn't.

As for not hitting big in "Web 2.0," you can't kiss all the girls. Your framing of the argument here is completely spurious. It's like saying, "Sure, Tom Brady is good, but he should hang it up because he's never rushed for the winning touchdown in a Super Bowl victory." Look at people like Warren Buffett, Charlie Munger, or Kirk Kerkorian. Doerr is in the flower of his youth comparatively speaking and those elder investors are still going strong. Investing is a business where cumulative knowledge and experience are an advantage.

In sum, you don't support your point very well, possibly because it's a poor point indeed.

BTW: No reason to call the guy "dorky" because of the gadget belt. What is this, eighth grade?
Let me see if I understand - you think that the maverick is getting too old and cannot see the forest for the trees anymore. Being 55 means the tech guru is an over the hill baby boomer who needs to make way for a new gunslinger. Maybe you've been writing way too long and need a break. Perhaps your having writers block and need to let a hungry social networking type wirte blogs or you could get with it dude, the man knows what he talking about.

REGEN

So are you saying that Moritz can beat his Google record while Doerr cannot?

ScalaWag

Moritz still seems to have something to prove, investing in ten companies last year, and in sensible sectors. Doerr's obsession with energy and climate change is probably better pursued as a public mission than a private investment.

Nick Denton

Whoa!

If Doerr has to retire because of Google, how'bout Moritz?

ScalaWag

Come on, Nick. Don't you know? Some people actually like their jobs.

deliriousnyc
