All the perks in the world can't make Mountain View and Sunnyvale cool. While here at the MySpace offices in sunny Beverly Hills, we have sun, sand, cool bands (Method Man was hangin last week), dope events and the most ridiculously hot staff in the tech world (our HR dept. RULES!)...oh yeah, and a pretty happenin' business too.
MySpace Cadet

Who cares if you can't afford to live where you work? At Google, it's all about the
Googleplex. I can swim in the stationary lap pool, hang at the eatery, and
pretend I've got lots of girlfriends. I live in a shitpot apartment with 2
broadband connections.. Now THAT'S cool.
openwag

right, right, they're both cooler....of course you forgot to compare the core of the issue facing both of them: both are around silicon valley (median incomes running 70-74k) and neither offers affordable housing of any kind within a nine day walk of either the mountain view (goog) or sunnyvale (yahoo) offices/hq - hence the need to move and create tons of other global offices where employees can actually afford to live, in which case yahoo currently wins hands down...sure elgoog will hire smart people, as will yahoo, but just like the big biotechs in boston, they will learn that the top grads can't afford to stay in the area, and may have little interest in moving to europe or china...btw, yahoo runs a real philanthropic organization, while elgoog is modified 501 to give them unique permissions to build businesses under the auspices of a nonprofit-veneer...so yahoo wins on that front too...
ResearchZilla
