Wallstrip has an interview with Jakob Lodwick, who's best known on Valleywag as the New York nerd Star editor-at-large Julia Allison settled for when she struck out in Silicon Valley. Lodwick's also the guy who can't focus on one good idea and go with it, instead, founding Vimeo, CollegeHumor and some T-shirt company. Anyway, in the interview, Wallstrip videoblogger Lindsay Campbell pretty much nails him on how YouTube came after Vimeo and blew it away. Lodwick responds with something about refusing to produce an inferior product. Talk is cheap. So is Lodwick's haircut.

Who wants to start a pool on how long it takes Jakob to reply to this?
No. He's best known to the Valleywag EDITORS. The rest of us don't care.
What? YouTube is totally different than Vimeo, as Jakob says himself.
If Vimeo allowed copyrighted content and porn, they probably could have been YouTube. Their design and UI is certainly much better. But instead, they've focused on creating a community of creative people. And it's awesome.
Collegehumor sucks.. It looks like the site was built by someone who didnt go to college..
So, Jakob, er, I mean Jakob..sorry, Scott - how are you today? Things going well?
@It Must Be Take a Worm for a Walk Week: I'm great! Loving the weather!
@Scott Kidder: New plan. Allow copyrighted content and porn. Sell site. Buy a film studio.
@Alaska Miller: You care so little that you clicked through on the item and left a comment. I see.
"Why do you put very personal videos of yourself on the web for pretty much anyone to see?"
"It improves my relationship with the rest of the world.
Anybody who's the slightest bit interested in me can find out what I'm up to. And can help me with my problems."
Why, yes, Jakob, we've all been put on this earth just to help you with your problems.
Huh! Of all the potential self-absorbed responses to that question, that might possibly be the most self-absorbed one!
Dude - the rest of the world doesn't have a *relationship* with you. They watch you for amusement. You know, like Paris Hilton or Britney Spears ... or Bozo the Clown.
Julia Allison will "settle" for anyone who has money.
@Scott Kidder: Where is your Vimeo account Kidder?
I like the idea of that, what he's saying. Though there are a lot of entertainment people playing in video and some who have started sites (not necessarily 'filmmakers') but the concept is cool enough and may differentiate them.
The only thing, is says nothing about being a site for filmmakers or whatever on Vimeo's landing page when you go there. And rather than giving HD (or in addition to), they should have created editing tools for users. Brightcove and some others off this, I think it's much more in step with the current market than HD is at the moment.
