VC Arjun Gupta arrested, charged with domestic violence

Arjun Gupta, founder of major venture capital firm TeleSoft Partners, was arrested in February and charged with inflicting "a corporal injury resulting in a traumatic condition upon Vinati Gupta," his wife at the time.

Earlier this month, Private Equity Week reported the story as a blind item. According to the item, Gupta (name withheld at the time) was "arrested at his office, handcuffed and marched out past his colleagues."

A misdemeanor complaint filed in the San Francisco County Superior Court lists three violations of California law, all concerning an incident in which Gupta allegedly abused his wife on February 2. Below is the complaint.

Which IIT was he from? They're the ones who have it the worst here in the USA, or so I've noticed having seen enough other domestic violence cases in Indian American families.

Actually, this is an old ploy used by many a bounty hunter (male or female). Seems like Mr Gupta walked into a carefully laid trap. Happens when ego gets in the way of judgement.

Meanwhile I am sure Vinati Gupta is counting the days to payout and settlement. Good work if one can get it I guess.... Aaah, life styles of the rich and famous. It's not about the money mind you... Its only about the money!

Arjun Gupta is one of the most arrogant, obnoxious people in the VC community. To add icing to the cake, even when married, he has been seen at many valley parties with other women. In business, he has no ethics aren't any better (track his personal returns in his investments vs those of his investors and you would see - or ask one). Even ex business associates don't speak well of him.

Bottom line: if you look within the set of people who know him well (either as investors, employees, business deal associates), and you try finding fans of Mr Gupta, you will be hunting for a long time.

A few years ago, two of my colleagues and I went to Telesoft to make a pitch. It was a prescheduled meeting. We arrived 15 minutes early and setup our computer for a live demo of our internet-based business. At the appointed hour, Arjun Gupta had not arrived. So we made the pitch to his colleagues, who responded enthusiastically. Arjun Gupta arrived 35 minutes late and said, you have 5 minutes to make your pitch; no demos, no slides. Everyone in the conference room was dumbfounded. I tried to make the pitch with the help of a slide that was already on the screen. But he abruptly walked out. On our way out, one of his colleagues apologized to us. Arjun Gupta lacks common courtesy. In a 20+ year career during which I have met dozens of VC's on the east and west coasts, he is by far the most arrogant and obnoxious.
