We'd heard, anecdotally, about an epidemic of midlife crisis in Silicon Valley's venture capital village. Turns out to be true. A look at court records shows a wave of divorce filings, either by husband or wife, when the venture partner hits 42. That's rather later than the average age at which a man in the US gets divorced, which is 34. So, the more established the VC, the more likely they are to stray?
Let's be judicious. Investors are professionals, who tend to get divorced later than the norm. And of course the more prominent venture capitalists feature heavily in any sample, simply because people don't gossip about their more obscure colleagues. And four isn't even a sample. More study is called for. In the meantime, does anyone have a photograph of Kleiner's Joe Lacob and his new trophy girlfriend, whom he's been showing off courtside at Stanford basketball games?
