A tipster tells us she overheard a young executive and his VC patron discussing the "secret local search engine" with Google cofounder Sergey Brin at the Web 2.0 Summit last week. Our tipster writes, "Sergey said the 'plans' looked good and not to say anything further about it in public." Right! Let's go with that. Is Google about to buy yet another unproven startup? Hmmm... A quick trip to the WhatsOpen.com site provides a small window asking for an email address. When you enter your address.... Nothing happens! Gave them the junk address, am still waiting for a reply after several hours.
A pargraph below in light, hard-to-read text promises the public Beta site will be open in late 2006. That's, uh, last year, right?
Okay, so what am I bid????
I was at the 2 dot 0 summit as well and over heard that website name at LEAST a dozen times from the google and other search giants, but they didnt seem so 'secretive' about it. They also weren't talking about a deal tho, they were talking about mobile gps technology. I input my email address into their box to find out more info.
They said in January that they will release withing 60 day, has anybody seen anything?
