Take a look at the panelists at On Hollywood, Tony Perkins' May conference. The event — Where Silicon Valley CEOs Meet the Entertainment Establishment — sounds impressive. Chad Hurley of Youtube is the star of a panel moderated by Carson Daly; Arianna Huffington, Sequoia's Roelof Botha, and Fox Interactive's Peter Levinsohn are all on the list. You'd think that Tony Perkins, one of the most powerful people in the Valley when he ran Red Herring magazine in its 1990s heyday, still had his mojo. But for the fact that most of the people on the list haven't confirmed. Out of five people I pinged, only Huffington, the political blogger and TV commentator, said she's showing up. More typical is this response: "Me? No, but I got an e-mail from them asking me to. I haven't responded yet. I might be off on vacation but that surely hasn't stopped them from putting my name up there." It's a classic tactic of event organizers: get people to show up by promising the presence of celebrities; but there are limits, and an oft-befuddled Perkins doesn't appear to know where they are.
