Valleywag

Soldier of Fortune

Fortune's probably the most storied, and prestigious, of US business magazine. So it's a little nauseating to see the Time Inc. title tout for sponsorship in a manner more befitting a two-bit trade mag. Valleywag's obtained a copy of the pitch for Fortune's iMeme conference, this July, in San Francisco. Now all such sales presentations contain a fair helping of empty promises, wrapped up in fancy language. But Fortune's $150,000 package for "major sponsors" is particularly craven. The sponsor, for $150,000, gets the usual package of on-stage signage, passes for its representatives, pass for other execs, priority seating at dinner, and other perks. But the "spotlight" on the sponsor's own achievements, "leveraging case study successes", sounds pretty corrupt. And one pities the poor Fortune editor who's roped into moderating a private post-conference session, for the sponsor's invitees only. A magazine like Fortune shouldn't have to lick the sponsors' boots quite so slavishly. The key slides from the sales presentation, after the jump.
