Jason Calacanis, recently departed boss of AOL's Netscape.com, went apeshit at the suggestion that his radical overhaul of the portal's front page had backfired.
Valleywag ran leaked internal stats showing a 70% decline in pageviews at the legendary web property during the tenure of Calacanis. Our ombudsman adjudicates — oh, that's me — after the jump.
The Netscape boss, a pioneer in commercializing weblogs,
blamed the closure of Netscape's email service, which was ordained from on high at AOL. The conclusion: pageviews did indeed decline by the amount stated, and ranking stories by popularity, the Calacanis initiative,
was responsible for part of the decline, according to Netscape insiders. But only part.
