Michael Arrington makes AOL wait

Red HerringtonYou know it's a bubble when tech publishers can piss off event sponsors, and they still pony up the cash. Michael Arrington's Techcrunch is holding a event in New York this Thursday, at Bed, a Manhattan nightclub at which guests are encouraged to get horizontal. Don't rush. Geek must be in this year. Bed isn't that hot a club, but for Thursday, there's a waiting list. Even for AOL employees, even though the company sponsored the event, as it did the Lou Reed performance at the recent Web 2.0. Anonymous bitching, after the jump.
Ok, so, dunno if you really want to write about this, but I SO have to bitch (and it could be way too clear it's coming from me).

TechCrunch's party is Thursday. I honestly hadn't even thought about going until someone mentioned it last week, since "AOL's a sponsor, sure we should be able to get people in." After all, we got extra exhibitor passes for Web 2.0 (although I don't think we were technically supposed to).

But are we getting the passes? Nope. Arrington's giving us 10 invites (apparently cut back from the original 11) and is offering to place everyone else on the waiting list.

I don't understand why so many people are actually willing to do this. It's insulting, really - sit in a room (well, I've heard "heated rooftop area") waiting for someone to leave a party so I can go in? Reminds me of waiting on lines at clubs in the city when I was 15. I haven't done that since then, though, and I sure as hell won't now. :)
