    Larry Page won't make it

300Px-Larry PageThe fossils of San Francisco high society have high hopes for each new generation of technology moguls, and they are so often disappointed. Larry Page of Google was seated next to one grande dame at a recent private dinner, intended to introduce them to the San Francisco charity and social scene. He won't make it, she's been telling people. For our society correspondent's report:
The old dames and dads like to divide up the world of local charities and are always on the look for the new fellow/lady who might have an interest in timpani, or arias, or abstract modernism, or fish and thus support the appropriate museum. But first and foremost they're looking for new blood for their social rambles. And while it's blood they want, its high gloss polish they require. One old dame told me she was seated next to Larry Page at a dinner and she has concluded he "won't make it." She means socially he lacks polish, didn't know to turn conversationally to the other guest from time to time. So she thinks in the long wrong what she assumes are his ambitions to be a part of this world must fail. Not that he cares... I do not think he has any such ambitions at least after a few evenings like that.
