Google —
a company that's more Israeli in character than American, according to one exec — is rediscovering its roots. The Mountain View campus, where even the massage therapists are Jewish, made a big deal of Passover this year. At the No Name Cafe, Jewish Googlers — Jooglers? —
listened to a klezmer band while eating the Jewish holiday's traditional gefilte fish and baked kugel. Or, in annoyingly cute Googleplex spelling —
koogle. Which also happens to be the name of the
former chief executive of
Google's Sunnyvale rival, who did the deal in 2000 that funneled Yahoo's search requests to the young startup. Google did indeed feast on Koogle.
