Tellme's official line is that the automated phone oracle is having conversations "across the board" -- but has not been sold to Microsoft. Pah. We're hearing from a couple of sources that the deal with Redmond is indeed happening. For future reference, "discussions across the board" usually means this: the deal isn't closed, but we're too far along to pretend that nothing is going on; so we're going to muddy the waters by pretending that other possible acquirers are in the frame, which may have the additional benefit of improving our negotiating position as we work out the details.
