Tim Draper scores one of the first big hits of the web boom. The $400m sale to Microsoft of Hotmail, the hugely popular free web-based email service, makes Draper an authority on viral marketing.
Another big score: the sale of Skype, the internet phone phenomenon, to eBay. The deal was led by Draper's father, Bill, but the DFJ founder managed to ride on his coat-tails.
The buccaneering investor puts personal money into a maker of luxury vibrators. If he had intended for his involvement to remain secret, it probably wasn't a good idea to invite the founders to the DFJ party. Draper performs an adaptation of Wild Thing.
