Here's a little hedge if you're long the internet: Fucked Company, the website which chronicled the tech sector bloodbath seven years ago, is up for sale. It's a perfect contracyclical play: the site — which published memos and tidbits, about layoffs or financial difficulties, came alive only in 2000 when the Nasdaq stock market crashed and internet companies began to run out of cash. During this internet upswing, the site's had no particular function; in fact, it's so passe that the site's shameless founder, a Manhattan roue nicknamed Pud, has moved on. Philip Kaplan, as he's now known, got with the Silicon Valley program. Busy with Adbrite, his Sequoia-backed ad network, he's selling the Fucked Company site. It would be a perfect acquisition for, say, Michael Arrington. When his startup-hyping news site, Techcrunch, goes under; he'll have Fucked Company to pick up newly cynical readers.
A bear-market bet

It looks like Pud is also selling Mobog. Clearing out all the sites, it looks like.
A few years back, at an advertising event, Pud was looking for a new writer for Fucked Company. I said that the thing that needed to be done was to update the site with RSS and make it more like a blog with comments. I wonder if it was more long-form, and more interactive, if the community would have submitted and stuck around.
Just thinking, though.

Today we are announcing that we have acquired Philip “Pud” Kaplan’s FuckedCompany.com in a stock for assets transaction. The basic details of the transaction are included in a press release that will go out shortly, and Pud has mentioned this on his personal blog.
This past weekend I took part in what was supposed to be a simple April Fools gag. But through a series of coincidental circumstances and odd timing, it came together into what some are calling the best tech April fools joke of 2007.I don't know if it was the best, but it certainly had to be the...
