"Once every hundred years media changes." With those inane words, at 2:37 PM Eastern time yesterday, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg flipped the bozo bit on himself among Silicon Valley techies. But East Coast cynic Nick Carr got the last word:
It's true. Look back over the last millennium or two, and you'll see that every century, like clockwork, there's been a big change in media. Cave painting lasted a hundred years, and then there was smoke signaling, which also lasted a hundred years, and of course there was the hundred years of yodeling, and then there was the printing press, which was invented almost precisely 100 years ago, and so forth and so on up to the present day — the day that Facebook picked up the 100-year torch and ran with it.

He also has the same to say of advertising:
"the next hundred years will be different for advertising, and it starts today"
I'm really glad he figured that one out. I'll tell my grandchildren to tell their grandchildren to mark their calendars for 11/06/2107 as the date when the a form of advertising is revealed.
Douché, Mr. Zuckerberg!
"Once every hundred years media changes."

Somebody should tell Vin Cerf and the rest of the group that they can breathe a sigh of relief now that facebook has finally brought some meaning to their work.
