The PC Google: Why does Google care about efficient PC power?

The New York Times discusses a white paper that Google will present today at the Intel Developer Forum:

Google is calling on the computer industry to create a simpler and more efficient power supply standard that it says will save billions of kilowatt-hours of energy annually.

The initiative, which was actually already started by someone else, concerns personal computers. The Times also says:

Google does not plan to enter the personal computer market

    Sorry, what?

Google does not plan to enter the personal computer market

What's more, they rig their own power supply system in their servers. They're pretty much detached from the market. This is a rehash of Google's earlier push for standardized power supplies in mobile devices. No, Google doesn't make those either. Does the company really think it's saving the future, or are they just trying to piss everyone off?
