Mark Zuckerberg in his own words:
It's hard to quantify that because this isn't a short-term thing. If an event [like] this happens and our users get spammed then they trust the site less and they use it less, then that could affect us tremendously down the line, even if it doesn't affect it right at this point. No, that's not the Facebook founder's mea culpa on the much-derided Beacon advertising program. It's Zuckerberg's deposition account of rival network ConnectU's attempts to harvest emails from Facebook profiles. But Zuckerberg's claim that the impact of losing user trust is "immeasurable" is just as apropos today as it was three years ago.

This guy will have to leave facebook's CEO position as times goes on. In my opinion, he's incompetent at that job. Everything that the facebook did so far in bizdev has been a giant mess. All this publicity about how he allegedly stole the code from his partners and all this Beacon deception about opt-in/opt-out stuff was a disaster for the PR of the company. One thing's clear: facebook is not worth 15B dollars. It's not even worth $5B.
facebook is only good at one thing: raising money. But you can't go on forever and just keep on raising money to pay your bills. If it weren't for MS's credulity and guaranteed revenues, facebook would be in even bigger trouble.
MZ should just let someone else run things... he's in way over his head.
I have to agree with Figaro. Facebook has many good qualities and lots of users, so it's not going out of business anytime soon. Their board of directors needs to have "the talk" with young Mark. He knows it's coming; it's the talk about now being the right time to bring in an experienced leader.
BTW - no one should blame young Mark for being, er, um, YOUNG! His age is not his fault. Any/all blame goes to his investors if they leave him in the post too long. He can and will contribute much over the next few years --- but it will be from a slightly different vantage point.
then bring him back in five years to do a Jerry Yang/Steve Jobs?
@Figaro: Agreed. Zuckerberg is a liability and his biggest mistake was holding so much of the company.
@SeanPara: Those are different circumstances, especially Jobs.
hey ho, yanks dont get English humour
@sample032: LOL. That was his biggest mistake. He should have just done as told and sell to Friendster for $1M on a good day.
@Figaro: That is why they are a private company. Listening to too many well-wishers is worse than being arrogant.
