Facebook hacked, not by Facebook employees this time

FBhack.jpgAllFacebook reports that the Facebook-run group for the third-party application Total Sports Fan was hacked over the weekend. An Ohio State college football fan broke into the forum to post a taunting message repeatedly under different usernames. No word yet on whether the hacker penetrated further than the discussion group.

This isn't Facebook's first security breach, but it comes at a precarious time for the company. Users are just catching wind of the company's new behavioral targeting schemes. To avoid trouble from users and the FTC, personal data needs to seem safe from outside hackers. Oh, and snoops inside the company, too.

  • For the sake of clarity, it doesn't seem like Facebook itself was hacked, but rather a third-party application. I'd hope that the third-party API has security against a breach propagating further into Facebook itself.
