Screenshots of first Googlephone app

WhatsOpen screenshot Remember WhatsOpen.com, the stealth search startup that piqued Google cofounder Sergey Brin's interest last month? Brin was so intrigued he told the founders to keep the company hush-hush. Now, however, a source has leaked screenshots of WhatsOpen's secret project. The company has a Web application which shows users nearby stores and their operating hours — "what's open." But I'm told by a source that WhatsOpen has also written the first wireless app for Google's new Android operating system. (You may know Android better as the software behind the still-mythical Googlephone.) Demo screenshots after the jump.

It's just a rumor, but if true, you're looking at the first screenshots of the first leaked application running on Google's new mobile Android OS. The app from upstart Whatsopen does just what you might think; it tells you what's open nearby your location.

  • Yeah... because thats a problem I always have. I never know when stores are open near me. hmmm. Just last night I was wondering if the 7eleven was open.

  • Would be a very useful too at night for finding bars and restaurants. Could see it using a green light to indicate open and red for closed. Pulling time of network towers and matching up to database of locations. On a side note, for anyone interested, a group of us are putting together a comprehensive site for tracking anything and everything Android or OHA related. Reviews, previews, facts, rumors, and opinions.
[androidguys.blogspot.com] We'd like to be the premier site for fans and developers.

Whatsopen is an unlaunched web and mobile local search engine — and a secret testing ground for Google’s new search offerings, a source tells us.

That's kinda weird, to write software for a platform that doesn't really do much and also doesn't run on any modern device. Maybe the time is finally right for my Bally pinball-based social networking effort. Now, keep in mind, this is location based (you have to go to the pinball machine to meet your "friends"). Also, the friends I am seeding the network with live in Bangalore. So the whole thing has some bugs.
