The eBay CEO is so out of touch with her customers' discontent that she brags to Bloomberg News about this fact: Less than half of the users of PayPal, eBay's online-checkout service, think it's "good." Granted, Google Checkout, the search engine's rival payment product, comes off less well. But Whitman should be distraught, not gleeful, at such low customer-satisfaction scores.

But that PayPal story does sound pretty awful. I'm partial to their free virtual credit cards, though.
Ebay is old school. You get dinged once with the listing fee and then you get dinged again by the same company by using Paypal. Transactional costs are too high. Throw in shipping and there's no reason to use Ebay. Craigslist or bust.
Enh, you get dinged by both companies, granted, but still...you usually make more money selling on eBay than you would on Craigslist, which more than make sup for the small fees. An item you get $25 for on eBay, you couldn't really sell on Craigslist for that much. The psychology of a bidding war on eBay usually nets more. That said, something high-dollar like laptop, I'd sell on Craigslist. Too many asshole buyers.
ebay has gone from that cool estate sale in your neighborhood to the walmart of the web. gross.
If you actually read the article, Whitman is not the one who gloats about the percentages. She talks about the unhappiness with Google checkout (at 14% of users being happy), but the PayPal numbers are just reported by the reporter and not Whitman - and they are actually from a different survey! So she's not really gloating.
At least let's be factual!
Yeah I thought this was going to be about the new layout also; the I realized it would be way more than half that hate it.
Calcanis, ever think of maybe dumping Mahalo and giving a shot at a Web 2.0 (simple design, clean layout, fees that are far less than Ebay's) marketplace?
