NICK DOUGLAS — The only auction site that matters is now delisting all auctions for virtual goods from the site, according to Slashdot. An eBay spokesperson says anyone who repeatedly tries to sell virtual goods will be punished. So much for eBay founder-chairman Pierre Omidyar, who also invested in Linden Lab, makers of the virtual world Second Life. "This generation that grew up on video games is blurring the lines between games and real life," he told BusinessWeek in May. Guess blurring doesn't count when eBay's money is on the line.

How dumb. They could've created a Second Ebay and kept the business. I suppose the race is on to create a (or grow an existing?) Second Life auction site.
Do you any any SecondLifer who sells or buys goods on eBay? They (am I kidding - we) use SLexchange.com or SLboutique.com instead. The only SL related items you can find on eBay are Linden dollars, sold by 2 merchants/scammers only.
Delirious, I doubt the virtual goods market warrents spending all the money required to maintain a "Second Ebay."
JaneLame, good to know about the dedicated SL sites. How steady is the exchange rate?
Not sure about the stability. I have no understanding of economics whatsoever, SL or RL, though I have some experience when it comes to maxing credit card.
SLexchange is the larger website, which allows currency exchange as well, while SLboutique is for goods only. SLboutique is run by Electric Sheep, a large virtual building company. Basically, you can find anything in both: clothing, furniture, gadgets, scripts, houses, nose-hair clippers etc. Which is great, because SL stores are, unlike Amazon and eBay, unsearchable and unmanned.
The currency exchange rate is similar to the official Linden Lab price. SLexchange's rate is 277.0/285.8 (bid/ask), while Linden Lab's rate is 270/288. Quite stable.
