Red Herring's disappearing directors

Tim KoogleTo lose a director is unfortunate; to lose half one's board, Red Herring's record over the last year, smacks of carelessness. According to filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission for Alex Vieux's troubled publishing and events group, three directors — Arjun Gupta, Alona Barkat and Tim Koogle — have resigned since last February. Gupta, founder of Telesoft Partners, had his own personal problems, after he was arrested for wife-beating and news of the incident leaked out to Private Equity Week. The other departures, including that of Koogle, a much-liked former chief exec of Yahoo, could, at a stretch, be routine. But an exodus of high-profile board members — Koogle was Red Herring's blue-chip name — is also a warning sign. Nobody likes being on board when the ship's leaking.
