So David Sacks' new internet venture has been revealed on
his profile on the Linked In network. Sacks, formerly chief operating officer at Paypal, left the online payments outfit for a disgustingly successful foray in Hollywood, before being lured back to technology by the boom. Sacks' startup mission — "to create a family tree of the whole world" — is ambitious. He might want to start with a network diagram of Paypal alumni.
Geni took money from the
Founders Fund, the alternative venture capital firm set up by Sacks' Stanford classmate, and Paypal boss,
Peter Thiel. The runner-up, we hear: Sequoia Capital. And who is that venture capital firm's rising star?
Roelof Botha, another former colleague of Sacks at Paypal, who made his name by investing in
Youtube, yet another company founded by Paypal veterans.
