Natali Del Conte schools Fox News

Check out Natali Del Conte on Fox News. Del Conte not only makes her geeky solution to finding a hard-to-find Wii seem simple — "just Google Wii Tracker" — she also advises viewers to buy Wiis bundled with games and then just return the games. Sneaky sneak.

      Your April Fools prank sucks

Back in the '80s when Sun Microsystems was a hot, hip Valley leader, the company's engineers staged a series of April Fools' Day stunts that involved non-destructive hardware mods to the workplace. The most famous was in 1986. Overachieving 30-year-old manager Eric Schmidt arrived at work to find a VW Beetle, its engine running, had somehow been made to fit through the door of his office, like a ship in a bottle. More »

      Commenter of the week: random_play

This made me LOL for real: In this post about the memo CNET CEO Neil Ashe sent out regarding CNETs recent layoffs, commenter random_play penned a beauty:
The memo is as transparent as it is salient. Simply, Neil Ashe states that CNET needs to embrace change by exploiting their first-mover advantage to drive efficiencies by conceptualizing and architecting brand-centric, seamless, end-to-end, best-of-breed solutions for forward-leaning virtual communities.
But wait, we're just getting started: More »

No one has any idea how much Facebook applications are worth

SuperPoke is worth $13 million according to Facebook application tracker Adonomics. The site awards applications like Slide's Top Friends and RockYou's SuperWall values in the tens of millions of dollars — which provides some of the basis for the 9-digit figures that Slide has commanded, and RockYou hopes to get, in venture capitalists' estimates of their worth. Adonomics' numbers are as sketchy as those valuations, however. Facebook's homegrown Video application only has 807 active users, according to Adonomics stats. Something's off here, and I don't think it's just Facebook's $15 billion value. More »

Craigslist CEO not a pimp, just enormously helpful to prostitutes

Connecticut attorney general Richard Blumenthal has demanded Craigslist remove all erotic services ads. But that's not what got CEO Jim Buckmaster mad. Blumenthal also accused the site of making a "profit from prostitution." Buckmaster's response: The Yellow Pages and alt-weekly newspapers receive revenues from adult advertisements, not his company, and that "100% of our revenue comes from paid job listings and broker apartment rental listings." Google hires black lobbyist to appease black Congress members

Laszlo Bock, Google's vice president for Caucasian affairs people operations, didn't make a great impression on Congress when he lobbied for more H-1B visas last summer. Representative Maxine Waters asked Bock how many black employees Google had, and Bock proved curiously short of numbers. But Google has since acquired a token clue. Paul Brathwaite, former executive director of the Congressional Black Caucus, now works for the Podesta Group — and has registered to lobby for Google on immigration issues, as the following Senate registration shows: More »

Scribd holds anniversary at investor's $22 million mansion

I've never quite understood the point of Scribd. Some describe the startup as a "Flickr for documents," except just about any blog platform lets you post documents. At last I'm clear: Scribd is an elaborate excuse for its investors to hold lavish parties. Ed Kinsey, the former CFO of Ariba best known for buying a $22 million house in Atherton before the bubble burst. Kinsey, an angel investor in Scribd, threw a one-year anniversary party Saturday night. On the menu: Caviar on potato chips, vodka shots, lamb chops, a full in-house sushi station, cocktails chilled on a martini-shaped ice sculpture. (These details are courtesy of Joey Wan's Flickr set.) Reports another attendee: More »

      Happy belated Easter, Valleywag readers!
