Revision3 hit by possible hacker attack
Veronica Belmont only recently signed on to do Tekzilla with Revision3, and is already reporting from behind the scenes of the web network's infrastructure with "Holy DDOS attacks, Batman! Rev3 is under fire!" I contacted co-founder and VP David Prager, who wrote it's a "possible DDOS attack," and that "our IT and tech team is working on if there is an issue or not." For what it's worth, the site's loading fine for me, so no need to fret that you'll miss the latest from Diggnation just yet.

Veronica Belmont signs on to Revision3's Tekzilla
Sexy geek Veronica Belmont's new gig is with technology review and tip show Tekzilla, which is produced by Revision3 and is currently hosted by TechTV veteran Patrick Norton. The news comes on the heels of last week's announcement that she'll be leaving as the sole host of Mahalo Daily. Tekzilla can expect a good boost in the show's audience numbers as Belmont fans follow her to her new co-hosting gig. And Revision3's dodgeball team just got that much harder to beat. Veronica Belmont is no longer a "Rojas-level" hire at Jason Calacanis's Mahalo Daily videoblog. But she's lending her name to former Calacanis partner Peter Rojas's music site RCRD LBL. Or, rather, music group the Carps is lending it for her. They've written a song titled "Veronica Belmont." Why? Who will fill the hole soon-to-depart Mahalo Daily host Veronica Belmont left in Jason Calacanis's heart? He's planning an American Idol-type contest to find out. Rumors peg Pittsburgh-native Justine Ezarik, better known as iJustine, as an early favorite. Check out the clip below. In it, iJustine interviews SXSW music attendees to the shortly after SXSW interactive geeks left Austin. "Did you hear they released the iPhone SDK," she asks one music fan. Veronica Belmont soft-quits Mahalo Daily, Jason Calacanis
Mahalo Daily host Veronica Belmont — the videoblogger whom Mahalo CEO Jason Calacanis once dubbed a "Rojas-level hire" , in a comparison to Engadget cofounder Peter Rojas — has announced she's "moving on to new projects." She'll host the show for a few more weeks and then later contribute as a correspondent. "This came out of nowhere," a Mahalo source tells us. Considering Belmont's working conditions, it shouldn't have been a surprise. Interviewed in the video clip below, Belmont — who lives in San Francisco — says she spends two weeks each month in Santa Monica. How did Belmont like the commute? "Dog ate my previous funding round" could be Calacanis's excuse
Jason Calacanis is seeking to raise an additional $20 million in funding for his startup Mahalo. Investors are being asked to value the human-powered search company at $175 million. This, less than six months after raising an initial $20 million at a valuation of around $100 million, which was to last the startup for five years. At the time, that valuation seemed based more on Calacanis's Brooklyn bluster than anything else. But this additional fundraising is even more of a headscratcher. More »

Jason Calacanis's human-powered search engine Mahalo is "fundamentally flawed," says videoblogger Andrew Baron. Well, we could have told you that: It's basically Yahoo's directory, 12 years too late. But Baron, best known for creating Rocketboom, trashed Calacanis's service not for its lack of originality, but for its lack of critical applause. Like a studio boss of old, he hopes to manufacture stars. Take, for example, his flashy hire of Peter Rojas away from Gizmodo (like Valleywag, a site published by Gawker Media) to run Engadget. Calacanis parlayed Engadget into a blog network, Weblogs Inc., which he then sold for $25 million to AOL. As an AOL executive, when Amanda Congdon left Rocketboom, he publicly offered her a videoblogging deal — which never panned out. Now, with Belmont, Mahalo's new videoblogger, Calacanis again wants to create a new star. He's fooling himself.

Chris Pirillo gets pwned on Pownce
Chris Pirillo, the tech pundit and conference organizer, doesn't mind being exposed. But he does object to people stealing his identity, as some unknown user has done on Pownce, Kevin Rose's file-sharing service. Pirillo says he hasn't signed up on Pownce, and doesn't know who's using the username "chrispirillo" on the service. Among the people the faux Pirillo appears to have taken in, if you can trust any username on Pownce: Digg cofounder Jay Adelson, spokesblogger Robert Scoble, and Internet-TV personality Veronica Belmont. One thing Pirillo might want to look into: Someone has also signed up for Pownce with the login "lockergnome," the name of Pirillo's popular tech website.
