Magister commented on Live, From New York, It's Saturday Night: Defamer Pays A Visit To Studio 8H @Mark Graham: I got more of a Paul Lynde vibe from the performance, but yeah, CNR was a big part of Match Game.

Also, as someone who has seen every SNL, ever: I really appreciate your report and your feel for the honor, but the whole part about the corridor reminded me that Studio 60 is now on Hulu.

Magister commented on Muppets Debate Clinton vs. Obama If nothing else, if Obama doesn't win in November (and he's not a sure thing), the long primary battle has given the kids someone to blame.

Magister commented on Mysterious Earthquake Fails To Destroy D.C. This may have been covered in an old episode of Wonder Woman;

The Brady Bunch Dad acts with some kind of accent, steals a formula for generating earthquakes, gets exposed to the bubonic plague and then he rings a secret Maryland laboratory with explosives, so that an experimental reactor would melt down and destroy Washington.

Thankfully, the boss from I Dream of Jeanie was an expert in all sciences, so with Wonder Woman's help (she's a wiz at math), they were able to save the day.

(Don't blame me. My kids just watched this episode, last week)

Magister commented on IT'S JUST LIKE THEY PREDICTED: I don't know.

I just visited Drudge for the first time in years and one of his links to an AP story says that twice as many people over 65 have voted in NC than those under 30, so it may not be an overwhelmingly pro-Obama crowd.

Magister commented on Poll: 60% Of Democrats Forgot To Take Retard Medicine Before Responding To Poll @AgentBristow:
Reality has no place in politics. It's all about the perception.

Magister commented on IT'S JUST LIKE THEY PREDICTED: While I don't doubt that Obama will carry North Carolina, local reporting is showing a large number of provisional ballots and because they'll need to be weighed, the exit polls may not be entirely accurate. (Unless they're showing Obama with something like a 15-point lead)

Nevermind that people are still voting...

Magister commented on LIVEBLOGGING THE BEST EVER @AxmxZ: Last I checked, Obama was favored in more Congressional districts, so in addition to getting those for the statewide win, his delegate margin from NC should be even greater than what he'd get from a straight proportional distribution.

Magister commented on LIVEBLOGGING THE BEST EVER @El Bombastico:
Maybe he should send her to Easy-U, where everybody gets a little bit.

Magister commented on Poll: 60% Of Democrats Forgot To Take Retard Medicine Before Responding To Poll @Doglessliberal: I agree that such a small sample could be misleading and I've sometime questioned the "science" of polling, altogether.

But, I've posted a few reasons to my TPM blog about why I think the continuing race is a good thing and I've touched upon them in some of my comments in this space. It seems to me that the primary group who'd like the race to end are the vocal Obama supporters and if you consider that turnout has been close to 50% and just over 50% of them have been voting for Obama, then the above 23% could be getting pretty close to representing his total vote.

I know that's probably not the case because I'm sure some who have voted are in the 60%, but I have to agree that most people are probably wanting the thing to continue because to them, it's not hurting anything.

Magister commented on Poll: 60% Of Democrats Forgot To Take Retard Medicine Before Responding To Poll @Doglessliberal: Not to state the obvious, but based on the poll, apparently most people want the race to continue.

Magister commented on Poll: 60% Of Democrats Forgot To Take Retard Medicine Before Responding To Poll I'd say that all the numbers sound a little low, but then I'd be failing at math, so I have to accept that they were given only three choices.

Magister commented on LIVEBLOGGING THE BEST EVER @El Bombastico: Yeah, if they're headed to Bob Jones, then they've overshot the target.

Magister commented on John Kerry Is Sex Pervert @TEAM HEIDI: Though I'd guess they are both over eighteen, it appears that the age of consent in Massachusetts is most likely sixteen, with no special footnotes or notations.

Magister commented on Scarlett Johansson And Ryan Reynolds Engaged To Each Other I always think of Ryan Reynolds as the slacker from Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place, then I remember that he's also done some films.

Apparently, it was a nice day in Massachusetts.

Magister commented on Obama Sucks At Fighting @Magister:
Er... *conditional support* and *millions*, but you get the idea.

Magister commented on Obama Sucks At Fighting @FerdBerfel said: Barack's ads are sensible. They remind me of John Kerry's response to the swift-boaters.

Or better yet, Kerry's response to the two ads that Bush ran, where he was called to the carpet for mistakenly telling a newspaper, a decade before he ran for President that he had supported the concept of a 50¢ increase in the gas tax; A vote that never happened or which he never proposed. Not to mention, how this ten year-old misremembering was lumped-in with a vote against a tax holiday and nine votes for a single 4.3¢ increase to imply support for eleven boosts to the gas tax.

No, withholding conditional or simply saying that "if it was done right" isn't nearly as good as spending million to explain your choice, especially in light of the electorate's stellar history on the subject.

Magister commented on Ballmer to Yang: How stupid are you? @StartupBitch: It looks to me like they've essentially let the directory die.
I've long said that one of their strategic mistakes was that they insisted on hiring people to verify the submitted links in the valley to work in-house, while the job could easily be done via telecommuting from afar and at a much lower cost. The directory (which was what defined Yahoo!) isn't even one of the top level search choices anymore, so basically now, they're really mostly a homepage, a mail system and a site for banner ads.

Magister commented on Julia Roberts Can't Open! (And Other Crises Setting a Shattered Hollywood on Edge) Wow! People go to see movies and the people in them are only one consideration, along with the plot, the reviews, the rating, the trailers, clips, ads and whether or not it's playing in a theater near their home. Who knew? Heck, the next thing you know, they'll tell us that there's some films people will prefer to see in a theater, some they'll hold for cable and others which they plan to rent on DVD.

Magister commented on Google needs to stop being nice and start charging advertisers for distribution Ah... Come on, Jackson... You know that whenever we're watching an episode of Monk or Grey's Anatomy, whenever that commercial for the cruise line plays, we all "look over there", even though there's no "over there" on a full screen. Or, if we're watching something else and that car ad comes up, the one where they just present a menu of eight video shorts, we always stop what we're watching, so that we can watch something completely unrelated. If all this is true, why wouldn't you think that we all won't click on an overlay which'll cause our chosen YouTube to stop, so that we can watch a trailer or some other commercial?

I mean, why should Playboy pay YouTube to host their Playmate Search, when the State of Utah or some other advertiser will underwrite it with an overlay? (Note: As stated in the NYTimes article, the overlays don't show on embeds and my experiments show that they don't always come-up via a direct link, plus the State of Utah is just one advertiser out of several featured over Holly Madison's introductory video, but if you're interested: The overlays for Holly's video do seem to show, if that replay isn't just showing an Adwords box, if you go through this page. Just click on the topmost video and hit reload until the tell-tale yellow marker appears)

I mean, I'm watching a Playboy production, so why wouldn't I pause the video so that I can watch a "Visit Utah" or an ad for vodka?

Magister commented on Old Barbara Walters Had Sex Affair With Old Black Republican Senator, In The 1970s @officejob9000: She's selling another memoir. I'm not sure how it differs from her last autobiography, except it obviously contains this revelation and according to the press, she may be more candid about her relationship with her sister.

My wife read the last one and it's over there on the shelf. Her review at the time was that it seemed a little too cleaned-up and antiseptic, so maybe now that she doesn't need the money and her place in television is assured, maybe she's being a little more honest this time around.

Magister commented on Rob Lowe NannyGate Rendered Even More False And/Or Terrible With New Harassment Claims @SanFranBetsu: Now, I thought the threesome was with Judd Nelson and that it was the Atlanta convention, but I could be wrong.

Nonetheless, if memory serves, nobody went to jail because the underage girl misrepresented herself and she's the one who made the videotape, so obviously she was plotting something.

Magister commented on Barack Obama Almost Gets UNC Basketball Team In Trouble @mnTwins07:
Duke's a school in North Carolina, but it's not really a North Carolina school. She'd do better, if she were to play against NC State. They have a lot more North Carolinians in the student body and it's more of an agricultural and technical school, so it's not as burdened with elites.

Magister commented on Rumer Willis Works Hard To Emulate Demi Moore, But Do Extensions And Bikini Bodies A Superstar Make? @OldTowneTavern & @pumpkinsoup: For me, it was when they spent the better part of a year building up to a "nerve gas" storyline, then suddenly they dropped it and started focusing exclusively on family and standard soap opera fare.

Magister commented on Photo Finish There's a gallery in Santa Fe which stocks a lot of Annie Leibovitz's work and though she may or may not have certain sensibilities (shoot the messenger, anyone), when you're walking down the street and when her photos come into view, you sort of have to give it to her because she's clearly an artist.

Of course, what always strikes me on my trips to that gallery is the $290,000 photo from Ansel Adams because I've always admired his work, but damn...

Magister commented on Rumer Willis Works Hard To Emulate Demi Moore, But Do Extensions And Bikini Bodies A Superstar Make? @OldTowneTavern:
PS) I watched the finale of the "Laura Palmer" show in the garishly-painted lounge at "Fred Flintstone Village", but that's a whole other story.

Magister commented on Rumer Willis Works Hard To Emulate Demi Moore, But Do Extensions And Bikini Bodies A Superstar Make? @OldTowneTavern: I thought that name sounded familiar. I just mostly remember the "fake" Laura, whom the Cassadine's had brainwashed to think she was "real" until Genie Francis agreed to reprise her role.

(Yikes! I watched GH for far too long, but thankfully, I basically fell out of the habit in the months after 9/11 and now, I only see it maybe once a month)

Magister commented on Rumer Willis Works Hard To Emulate Demi Moore, But Do Extensions And Bikini Bodies A Superstar Make? @MissHathaway: Ah!Stamos! I still refer to the time that he had teenaged sex with the girl he was dating as some kind of pivotal moment in daytime history.

@pumpkinsoup: I don't know. I can actually picture a couple of scenes with Demi, but I probably couldn't pick Laura Palmer out of a line-up. There was just some kind of chaotic energy to her performance. Though, of course she was often playing against Emma Samms, so some of it may be in the comparisons.
---

As for Demi's kid: I have to say that she seems to photograph well, when she is posed, but some of the more candid shots over the years have made me wonder.

Magister commented on Gay Outrage Over 'Pansy' Remarks! @BoHan: Not to mention that up until a couple of weeks ago, when the "issue" started working its way around the blogosphere, gay/straight weren't among the labels "which divide us" that Obama likes to list.

Magister commented on Germaine Greer; Glamour Editor: Miley Cyrus Hubbub Is Hypocritical I really don't have a problem with the photo and if you go back through history, I have to say that teens have been provocatively captured in art for centuries.

Of course, what I really find semi-hypocritical is that I probably would've heard never about the photo, if it weren't for all of the talking heads pursuing ratings and the "experts" trying to get a little camera time. The pic would've come and gone, maybe it would've been picked-up by a fansite or included in an Annie Leibovitz gallery show, but if it weren't for all of the attention, no one would've known.

Magister commented on Friends: How Many Of Us Have Ones Like Jeremiah Wright? @Magister: re-editing got the best of me;
