Facebook will update its profile design in the next couple of weeks, a change rendered momentous if only by the millions who have known no other interface to their obsession. Below, check out the new look. Then compare it to Facebook profile designs from a past as distant as 2005. You remember the time, right? It was before Facebook's spammy apps, before the stalker-friendly News Feed, and before they let in all the jailbait high-schoolers. Come, journey with us into the lost youth of Mark Zuckerberg.
The earliest Facebook profile we could find comes from 2005, though the site started up in 2004. Back then, you needed an SAT score of 1350 to use "thefacebook.com" Or at least a good personal essay "revised" by your guidance counselor.
A fuller look at the profile in later 2005. Note the Matrix-y 1s and 0s flowing around the departed "Facebook guy."

By 2006, at the time this profile screenshot was taken, thefacebook had become just "Facebook" and already founder Mark Zuckerberg had caved to hoi polloi. Bennington.

Here, from 2007, the Facebook profile almost as it is now. But without Vampires, Zombies or that ever-begging "Causes" application.

The Facebook profile as it is now. Accessible to high schoolers, the unemployed and even those at state schools. Note how it's carefully armored against your pervy eyes.

This design is such a click-bait.
I have to make three clicks to see the information I currently see in one click? (wall / info / feed)
I know your CTR is nothing to boast about. But making facebook harder to use is not the way to fix it longterm. Short term, yes, enjoy the extra pennies from frustrated click monkeys.
So....it will look more like MySpace? See, that sucks.
Funny how the most recent version is the one that looks like my friend's Apple computer circa 1996.
Why complicate something that was already working. Damn those extra apps in the first place.
back to tabs eh?
If you check out the Facebook Profiles Preview "page", you can find new screenshots of the redesigned navigation page that gives a better idea about how apps will be organized. The top bar is becoming more of a menu system to replace the sidebar. Would have been good to include that screenshot here to better represent the evolution of the site design.
I think they are taking it in the right direction, generally speaking.
they should bring back the 'member since' feature, that way I can show off my 2004 FB cred!
So this new design will now make them money? Vindicating their absurd valuation?
but seriously, wow, if this is "news" then society is lame
Facetards: calm down and breath. The last shot -- the one at the bottom of the page -- is the version for CELL PHONES. That's what the little "arriving on your 3G iPhone in just a few weeks" meme means.
@nobuggin: Actually that was my way of making it seem all future-y. That's the new design for regular computers, too.
I believe "Poke Him!" is also a common feature at the popular Manhunt platform.
Future? I see the good 'ol 404 Error page...
:-p
