I ignore most startup pitches. It's a truism that 9 out of 10 startups fail; relentlessly covering every one of them is mathematically a fool's game. But on occasion, I get one so bad that I feel obliged to share it with my readers, if only as a cautionary tale. CreateDebate, founder Bryan Orme informs me, "is a social networking site where users can create a debate about any topic they are interested in." His concept, in other words, is to compete with the entirety of the Internet. Feel free to debate the rest of Orme's startup pitch, reproduced here:

I like the idea a lot but struggle to understand the business model.
So basically he wants to reinvent Livejournal?
This doesn't strike me as a bad idea at all. If done well, it could make a great service. Once again, it's all about the team.
Hi Michael,
As always, I think your view on this business is really great. But, but you haven't included the proper competitive market analysis required to really put it into perspective. Might I suggest looking at my company, just out of alpha testing and nearly ready for private beta? I think you'll find we're doing something a bit more interesting.
Keep up the great work!
Suckass
I probably won't bother covering your piddling startup. However, play your cards right, and you could get an invite to my next party, where you may have up to 45 seconds of time to nuzzle my beanhole. Or I'll kick you out.
Sounds like a social networking site based on Salesforce.com's 'Idea Exchange' - same as [mystarbucksidea.force.com] and Dell's [www.ideastorm.com]
