Yahoo turf wars get nasty, and we love it

MarkMorrissey.jpgWhile Google, Microsoft, News Corp., and AOL fight to get a piece of Yahoo, the target's internal turf wars are turning ever more vicious. It's a lovely side effect — for us, at any rate. The latest slagfest hit Yahoo VP David Pann, whom our tipster describes as having been in charge of "Panama marketplace optimization" — tweaking the sale and placement of ads to make them more profitable. But no longer. Our tipster says Pann has been "shunted off to a quiet corner" and replaced by "his archrival," VP Mark Morrissey, pictured. Pann's already had his revenge, however.

Before he left, Pann rewarded his team for all of Panama's renowned successes with promotions for one and all. Now Morrissey is stuck with power-tripping incompetents, our tipster suggests, who "rarely spoke to any customer during Panama and caused disaster."

  • There goes Panama! But it might not be bad if it's to be replaced with Google Ads anyway.

  • Morrissey is both unassumingly dull and a machiavellian empire builder.

Pann is a decent guy and was protected while Cadogan was there...with Tim gone it was only a matter of time before Morrissey stepped in.

Don't expect Panama to suddenly improve under Morrissey...ironically he's the guy who led the whole effort to build the useless piece of crap.

  • If it's a useless piece of crap it's not Morrissey's fault. His team was responsible for coding and delivering what another team dreamed up. Morrissey brought a sense of discipline around how to actually get something out the door.

  • Morrissey is great - he's like a SoCal Banana Slug. He comes in and devours the mess left behind by the other woodland folk.

  • and Pann wasn't an "empire builder"?

His empire grew just as fast as Morrissey's, but in the end, the guy who commanded respect by his peers and from those who worked for him prevailed.

There simply was no room in the organization for the raging ape.

Morrisey should focus on how to shake off Pann's cronies who now work for him.
