Google today joined in the celebration of Israel's "Earth Hour" campaign by turning its background from white to black. Unfortunately, on LCD monitors sized 22 inches or less, Google's new black actually consumes more energy than its usual white one. But don't let that stop you from appreciating Google's touching tribute, reproduced in all its energy-sapping glory, below.

Hmmm - something not quite right here. Google themselves said this was bollocks in September:

Me thinks Sylvie Barack should find something more legitimate / compelling to cover. Mind you she is writing for The Inquirer. . . . .
"However, the power consumption difference between Google and Blackle on all 23 LCD monitors was as small as you could get - an increase of 100mW (0.1Watts). So after all that testing, we're in a better position to say that anyone else that Blackle makes next to no difference, on average, with LCD monitors."
I don't get it. Are you allowed to link to things you don't read now as long as you agree with Notorious Genius Mikey Arrington?
Sadly enough, you seem to not understand the campaign. Earth hour = turn off lights for an hour. The black page is probably a promo to encourage people to turn the lights off so the page simulates turning the lights off.

They even recommend turning your computer off for an hour.
Read! Read! before you post! Great moments in Valleywag PR, a blogger that does not read before posting. Sad...
From a post above:

Sadly enough, you don't seem to recognize the blogger's intention. Mr. Carlson was pointing out the irony of Google's gesture leading to more consumption of energy.
You asked him to read before posting. Perhaps you should learn to read before making a fool of yourself.
