The age of the High-Class Internet Whore began in 1999, with a lady who popularized the notion of two-day, $12K minimums and favored Slashdot to the back of the free local paper for advertising. I've pulled together a timeline of the High-Dollar Hottie, the Valley-based escorts who followed her, and the new one who may be their legacy.
Name: Anne Marie, the Educated Escort
Rate: $12,000/day, 2-day minimum
Launch: 1999
Notable media appearance: Slate, January 2000: "She played me a message left on her voicemail from a self-described Silicon Valley geek about to retire, who wanted to know what her annual fee is."
Anne Marie's bio puts her geek pedigree like this: "She also continued her education studying technology and working with some of the pioneers in the computer industry. In fact, one certain technological event landed her on the front of the New York Times and forced her to dodge reporters until this day." Not at all press shy, to get the word out, she gave interviews to Slate and Salon, the kinds of online publications her potential clients might actually be reading. Now retired, she still moderates the High Dollar Hottie web forum. See one of her earliest saved posts there, from 2002, where she responded to those who can't afford her.
Name: Jet Set Lara
Rate: £6,000/day
Launch: 2003 (archive of her first escort site)
Notable media appearance: GQ, January 2006: "Some men seduce by manipulation, while others are more organic, it just flows", she explains as we drift into a blur of champagne."
Lara courted blogger chic from the beginning. Her advertising angle was to get her hotel reviews linked to by Gridskipper and HotelChatter. She was also the first paid companion that you could actually hire that Jason Kottke blogged. Lara's blog is still live, but reports from colleagues say she's now more interested in being hired for writing. Typical!
Name: Brazil
Rate: $5,000/overnight
Launch: 2002
Notable Press Appearance: Numerous in 2004, after $61,000 in assets were seized from her safe deposit box, later claimed as a gift from Ask.com co-founder David Warthen.
Brazil was one of the first high-dollar hotties to go down for the content of her message board postings, bragging about her ability to pay off student loan debt with her escorting income. She left the business, got hitched to Warthen, and now reportedly owns a boutique in the Bay Area. Her legend still haunts the next generation of Internet call girls — a cautionary tale (report your income) with a Valley-twisted Cinderella ending.
Name: Samantha Waters, "The Dot.Com Call Girl"
Rate: Unknown
Launch: Unknown
So Why Is She Here: Waters was "a dynamo sales representative for a Silicon Valley tech firm" who worked as a call girl on the side. Her book is a memoir of those days. I'm not sure which will happen first — I'll either meet a former client of hers soon, or discover that I already know her.

The girls who ran their own porn sites made MUCH more than the high-dollar escorts that rarely, if ever, had an actual customer.
If the author of that book dot.com call girl was such a dynamo at sales, would she have really resorted to escorting? I doubt it. I call bullshit on the whole thing.
FYI... Anne Marie and Jet Set Lara are the same person. It's very commom for girls in this industry to have more than one identity.

L, Anne Marie and Jet Set Lara are NOT the same and are definitely two different people. It's not a bright idea to start false rumors like this. I should know as I am Anne Marie and only had one identity. To suggest that I'm still escorting (Lara hasn't yet retired you know) is not good for either of our reputations. Thank you.
Lily, I do not believe for a second that Lara and Anne Marie are one and the same. Can you prove this? I am wondering why you would write this openly on a public board. By the way Melissa, my favourite high dollar hottie is missing here. And I also noticed that there is a lack of "Black High Dollar Hotties". I know of only one such lady and she is not available by the hour. She has a 12 hour minimum and was interviewed by the German MAX Magazine last year. I think she is as interesting as lara and Anne Marie but not Lily. Can't remember her website address, but you can find her online. Lily, shame on you!
Faberge you are correct there aren't many "Black High Dollar Hotties", although I am happy to report that I am among the few (Cuban/African American) and I believe you were referring to Kathleen Glyde. Normally I wouldn't add my 2 cents, however when I hear false rumors I sometimes feel the need to chime in.
I have never met Lara nor have I met Miss Anne Marie, however I do know that they are NOT the same person.
A) They look completely different according to several sources.
B) Anne Marie had and continues to have an excellent reputation and would not compromise it with a long-standing lie.
C) I am sure that some of us share similar friends and would be exposed at some point in our careers if we were in fact using multiple identities. Friends (clients) love to talk; sometimes information is shared without ill intent.
Yes, there are women in the business that do have multiple identities so I've heard, but when you set your standards high and project yourself in an honest light it's not worth the risk of being exposed as a fraud. I certainly wouldn't find it worth wild.
Anne Marie has moved on with her life as far as I know and has not returned to the business. We should wish her well and not spread false rumors or accusations without solid proof, otherwise known as evidence (Critical Thinking, Journalism 101 and good old common sense).
Have a blessed day and Happy Easter. XOXO-Brunette Bombshell
No, Anne Marie and Jet Set Lara are not at all the same person.
Great post, Melissa!
In response to there aren't are not many black hdh's
as women of color we have always played second fiddle to our caucasian counterparts.
We are expected to, charge less for our time just based on our skin color alone.I have received many nasty e-mails that where just plain racist.Even though it is the year 2008, women of color are still stereotyped. We can not give 100% we must give 200% in anything that we do.
We can not make simple mistakes for the magnifying glass is always upon us. One misspelled word on a blog or message board and automatically we presumed to be uneducated.
Losing our temper in a justifiable situation is also a big no no becuase then we will be labeled as loud, ignorant
It not just black ladies that endure this it also darker Latinas and creoles like myself.
It actually so bad that some ladies will not admit to their African heritage if they can get away with doing so .The term that is used for this is called passing. Its shame in this day and age that this still goes here is goes on.
There is a movie about the subject Called "The intimation Of Life"I know there are exceptions to every rule. But how many Caucasian gentlemen, wished to be seen with a woman of color on their arm?
How many e-mails have I received with the N word in them? I stopped counting them. Plus I am fullfigured lady which adds to the insults. The latter I can change. Which I am in the process of doing now.Do I use any of these things as a excuse? No I do not anyway shape or form.
But I am aware of how things really are.
Until things really change. I fear the market for women of color as hdh's will remain a small one.
I would like to say, thank you to all the ladies that came before me.Your blood sweat and tears were not in vain.
