In the last 24 hours, we've heard that eBay has laid off 40 members from its bloated middle-management ranks and that its PayPal subsidiary has let its entire branding department go. Has Wall Street already gotten word of these cutbacks? We all know how much the market loves "fat trimming," and EBAY is up nearly two points so far today. (Photo by AP/Tony Avelar)

I have not heard anything yet from my eBay peeps.

40 people getting laid off isn't really notable, especially when they're from middle management.
I hear there is a level of fat that could be readily trimmed within the corporation and it would not signify a major problem. This can be said of any company of their size. Probably not much of an issue but time will tell.

wonder what departments?
I forgot to add the whole market it up today...not just eBay.

Will be interesting to see who got the ax. Now that Meg's out, I'm guessing it was her "young" who got eaten first.
Yeah, there was a minor layoff. On the PayPal side, it was all of branding and a "re-org" for the user experience team, loosening a handful of folks.
I got the ax.
How accurate! PayPal actually does have a very bloated management team! They should of "cleaned-house" years ago. Their ued department is one of the worse ever!
I'd love to see valleywag do an expose on the new gay CMO at PayPal. Apparently he does enjoy the boys...
wak wak wak wak....
Someone told me that many refer to it as GayPal.
Harry "again, not that there is anything wrong with it" Wang
right, there's nothing wrong with it. The parent has been known as e-Gay for years.
