Honestly, as painful as it was, I think it's ultimately a net positive for me. All most people hear is the vocal minority. I went to four parties Sunday night, was mobbed, and no one said a bad word. I haven't even gotten a single negative email. No one sees the hundreds of notes that have poured in supporting me, saying they were there and embarrassed, or the messages I've received from other Valley CEOs telling me they enjoyed the keynote and that we all get attacked at some point in our careers. It's just part of the job. Can't take the good without the bad.
Sarah Lacy shares her view on her SXSW
Mark Zuckerberg interview. Hold on, let me fix that for you. "I me I I me I me." There, that's better. [

Oh please, Sarah, stop with the violins. This is a classic PR move whereby one tries to deflect criticism by putting a positive spin on a otherwise uncomfortable situation.
Who is gonna honestly be rude enough to come up to your face and say "you sucked" or to waste time writing you an email. Let's face it, you bombed hard, it was awkward for everyone. The good news is that it provided filler for some amusing conversations. Life goes on, make a stupid tee-shirt about it (or something) and keep going.
Here's the real issue:
Unlike most of the other moderators/panelists at SXSW this wasn't a one off, random interview, this is Sarah's day job. While bad interviews happen, her work speaks for itself; people are driven to watch her because they are interested in what's on the surface (looks) vs any substance she's delivering.
It's really quite amazing what people in the tech world think qualifies as journalism.
If it went so well, Sarah -- here's a test for you. Do you get invited back next year to do another keynote interview?
shes not even that pretty, and apparently she cant even hold a conversation...
who did she sleep to get that job... this aint wikipedia
More importantly, will SXSW have someone worthy to interview next year? How about my mailman?
I am digging that milky whiteness, though. Mmm mm.
So wait... were we an unruly mob of "just developers" or were we polite enough not to tell you our honest thoughts of your performance at an after party??
I suppose I'm just hoping for a bit of humility from her. She somehow seems to believe that this is just a part of the job, or something that happens to everyone, without realizing that there's usually a reason that it happens.
She screwed up in many ways an the crowd (which I was part of) is completely justified (or at least mostly so) in their reaction. At the same time, she certainly needs to shrug it off and move on... but AFTER she's shown a bit of humility about the extreme bomb her panel was.
Zuckerberg is painfully dull, any fairly relevant questions she asked her dodged. She probably should have followed-up and avoided making long statements during the interview, but in general she was fine--and, as usual, the people in the technology industry who have never, ever made anything worthwhile (annoying twitter-ers, second-rate web designers, wantrepreneurs) are the ones who are making all the criticisms.
someone check her credentials. how is "How this kid made $60 million in 18 months" girl even capable of being recognized as a valid tech journalist? boobs?
@Dweezil:
i watched the whole video and thought it was just boring. it might have been more exciting but when an aspergers case and an airhead meet, there just isn't much to work with.
I think she did a decent interview, Mark just parroted back the same answers he always makes.
It was a hard interview, like interviewing a pre-recorded parrot.
WAKKK - We are building on a platform.
WAKK - We are god's gift to the world.
Wakk - I am a billionaire on paper but still a virgin.
WAKK!
NEWSFLASH : Tech Journalism is the new Music Journalism. Somewhere Nina Blackwood is dusting the mini-blinds.
Oh come on, her interview was not bad, what was bad was the subject she was interviewing.
@MagBas: Damned right!
@Alaska Miller: WTF?? She said that? What an idiot! Truly... what an idiot!
"the messages I've received from other Valley CEOs telling me they enjoyed the keynote"
She needs to come up with much more cunning lies than this. If I found out that a CEO of a company that I hold shares in is wasting time emailing pop-tart pretend journalists to sooth their shame I'm going to start a shareholder revolt.
I can obviously tell everybody here is not only a Zuckerburg fanboy, but also gay. Let's be honest here, Zuck can't hold a conversation for 20% of jack shit. He also sounds like he's talking with his tongue in the back of his throat.
I for one, couldn't keep my eyes off Lacy's rack and legs(shorter dress next SXSW Miss Lacy please?). All of you missed the true message of that interview. LACY'S LEGS.
P.S. Forget Julia Allison, gimme Sarah Lacy. Oh, and Owen, I saw that picture of you and both of them together. You should have done them both. AT THE SAME TIME. I know I would have.
Peace out ya pasty bastards.
she is hot..I wanted her to spread her legs more
Lacy's punishment for her horrible and unprofessional interviewing skills should be to watch a week's worth of Charlie Rose, and then a week's worth of Barbara Walters... She's obviously been learning her humility skills from George Bush and Donald Trump.
Lacy did a good interview. Even 60 Mins could do a decent interview with Doogy Houser CEO
couldn't, that is
"No one sees the hundreds of notes that have poured in supporting me"
Ah yes, the classic "The lurkers support me" defense.
whats the quote again..
no pics..didnt happen.
I was in the front row and was totally disgusted by your interview. You represent all that is wrong with the valley. Know your audience. You had a room full of designers and developers and you chose to waste our time asking Mark about his money. Shame on you Sara, maybe you should take up writing books on cooking or underwater basket weaving.
@gregwalloch: Greg, you seem to have confused Valleywag with Sarah Lacy's inbox.
