Some whiners say what the iPhone provides isn't the real Internet, because it lacks Flash. No kidding, donkeys: It's way better. Thank you, Steve Jobs, for saving us from Flash websites — the 2008 version of the <BLINK> tag. [Macworld]

Fair enough, but this doesn't explain the lack of J2ME.
@sample032: Java's too slow to be useful anywhere.
Oh noes! Where will I play pony pong if not on my goddam phone!
@matto: Three reasons you're very wrong: GCJ (the GNU Java compiler), JIT compilation/cachine has gotten much better (look at .NET), and native/pseudo-native physical Java machines (usually microcontrollers).
Totally agree. Can you imagine hitting a web site and have it start downloading 300K of Flash-based "rich" advertising over EDGE???
The iPhone may be the perfect tool for demonstrating those clueless clients who want a Flash-based website that it's a terrible idea. Or that they should at least provide an alternative HTML version. You know, the one savvy Web users select anyway (when they are allowed the choice), even when they have broadband access.
